Description
"A stylish pinot offering lovely aromas of dark cherry, plum, vanilla and toasted nut with nuances of earthy mushroom and mixed spice. The palate is elegantly weighted and delightfully expressed, and delivers silky texture and juicy mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by fine tannins. Beautifully harmonious and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2017
"Light ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is soft in expression, the fruit still bound and shy, but unfolding to show gentle red cherry fruit with light notes of fresh herbs, red florals and suggestions of nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front and gently rich, mouthfilling flavours of red cherries and fresh herbs along with red floral elements. The fruit is supported by light, grainy tannin extraction, providing structure and body. The palate is enlivened by fresh acidity. As the wine flows, some nutty nuances emerge, and the wine leads to a moderately sustained finish of cherries, herbs and florals. This is a moderately rich, cherry-fruited Pinot Noir with floral and herb notes on a fresh, light-textured palate. Serve with tuna or salmon, with poultry and with antipasto over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Rewa’ vineyard, Upper Wairau Valley, destemmed and fermented with a portion of whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barriques" Raymond Chan, Aug 2017
Dark cherry red in the glass with aromas of dark cherry and plum supported by a layer of toasty oak on the nose. Richly flavoured and aromatic, this wine delivers elegant Pinot flavours complemented by fine grained tannins and well balanced smoky oak flavours. The palate is full but soft with great length of flavour and finishes dry with perfect weight and mouthfeel.
The 2014 vintage saw ideal weather conditions led up to a harvest that was commenced in early April, with fruit in perfect condition and packed with flavour. The season also provided the requisite large diurnal temperature fluctuations that maximise the varietal flavours and intense colour of Marlborough Pinot Noir.
WINEMAKING: The fruit was destemmed without crushing to retain a percentage of whole berries in the ferment. Fermentation was carried out in small fermenters with twice daily gentle plunging of the cap to extract colour and tannins. Further maceration post-ferment and prior to pressing has enhanced the palate with soft tannins. After malolactic fermentation the wine underwent 12 months of oak maturation in premium French oak barriques prior to stabilising for bottling. The wine has not been fined in order to retain maximum flavour and mouthfeel.
Food Pairing: Richly flavoured meats such as venison or lamb served with mushrooms or savoury sauces.
