Description

"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. This has an elegant, tight nose with good concentration of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with fresh florals and notes of honeysuckle and minerals. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has rich and vibrant flavours of stonefruits and exotic florals, with notes of honeysuckle. The flavours form a finely packed heart, and mouthfeel is lively and refreshing. The flavours carry along a delicate-textured line, leading to a light, nuanced finish of florals and honeysuckle. This is an elegant and finely concentrated off-dry Pinot Gris with stonefruits and exotic florals with mineral elements on a crisp palate. Serve as an aperitif, with seafood and poultry over the next 3 years. Fruit from the Wairau Valley, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.2% alc. and 7.8 g/L RS" Raymond Chan, Oct 2017

The 2016 Vintage in the Upper Wairau was one of the best in the last decade. Warm daytime temperatures, tempered by cool nights, provided the ideal conditions for creating intense flavours while retaining fine acidity and elegance in the wines. As a result of these conditions, the flavour profiles tended more towards ripe and luscious with exceptional aromatics. Picking commenced the first week of April. The fruit was harvested at maximum flavour as assessed through frequent tasting in the vineyard by our winemaker - for Pinot Gris this occurs late in the ripening process. It was very gently pressed to avoid harsh phenolic extraction and the juice allowed to cold settle. The clear juice was fermented at low temperatures using yeast renowned for their ability to enhance the Pinot Gris aromas. A balanced amount of residual sugar was left in the wine to complement the palate weight and structure.
