Description

"Made from grapes grown in the Wairau Valley, this is immediately appealing on the nose showing ripe stone fruit, feijoa, fresh apple and sweet basil notes. The palate is juicy and flavoursome, and offers excellent fruit weight and intensity, brilliantly supported by vibrant acidity. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim Wine Orbit, Aug 2017

"Very pale straw colour with slight green hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is tightly bound, but shows a fine and slender, but very concentrated core with pungent passionfruit at the heart.  This has firmness, but also finesse, and reveals mineral notes with aeration.  Dry to taste, the palate is taut and slender in proportion, but shows richness at the core, with pungent passionfruit flavours the feature.  This is vibrant, driven and shows excellent tight linearity and very fine phenolic textures.  The palate is zesty through its length and finish.  This has the potential to develop with classical elegance, in the passionfruity spectrum over the next 2+ years.  All Wairau Valley fruit, with a high proportion of Rapaura material" Raymond Chan, Raymond Chan Reviews, Aug 2017

Showing the influence of the unique climate and complex soils; the aromas and flavours are packed with citrus, black currant and a blend of tropical fruit. The palate is crisp, bold, well balanced and refreshing.

The 2017 growing season in the Wairau Valley was defined by moderate temperatures, chilly nights and little rainfall. The combination of  low-fertility soils and a  cool climate naturally restricts yields and intensifies the fruit flavours in this Sauvigon Blanc. Goldwater vineyard practice sustainable viticultural methods to ensure the long-term viability of their land and capture the authenticity of the region.

The grapes for this vintage were gently harvested during the cool morning hours to retain the bright, pristine characteristics of the grapes, the result was fruit arrived into the winery possessing such extraordinary flavours and textures, that the primary task became to preserve and enhance these elements. After harvesting, the winemaker gently pressed the fruit and cold settled the juice before transferring to temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation.
