"This is a quintessentially Australian red wine" Winsor Dobbin

"Wonderfully fresh with vibrant fruits" The Key Report

A boisterous wild side, competes with the restraining natural acidity; juxtaposed opposites delicately balanced just like the emotions of its namesake Nessus the centaur.

Description

"This is a quintessentially Australian red wine; bold and full of flavour; ready to enjoy right away with meaty dishes or hard cheeses but capable of being cellared for a few years. I marked it down as being much more expensive than it actually is; making it a very good option for the price. Made from shiraz grapes sourced from the southern end of McLaren Vale, it is forward, fruit-driven, soft and smooth. Older oak plays a laid-back but solid support role but it is the dark, supple fruit that leads the way. Very gluggable." Winsor Dobbin, June 2017

"It’s young, and the nose is wonderfully fresh, vibrant fruits. I’m sure it will get more complex and probably go through a dumb stage as well, but for now it’s a joy, it’s springtime (though tasted in June). It’s alive across the palate, with light skipping hops, again full of joy. Light wine and light finish but good." The Key Report, Tony Keys, June 2017

"Punchy and powerful expression of McLaren Vale from one of the region’s best. Dark chocolate and ripe satsuma plum in abundance. Bit of a fruit bomb with a decent bang for your buck" Top 100 Red Wines, Ray Jordan, The West Australian, July 2017

Deep Crimson in the glass offering darker fruit profile of blackberries, black olive tapenade with dustings of white pepper spice on the nose. Palate is juicy and plush with flavours of cranberry and raspberry, hints of dark chocolate and soft tannins that lead to a more savoury, silky finish.

Nessus was a centaur, a mythical half-horse half-man. Like all centaurs, Nessus was caught between two natures, the wild beast and the thoughtful teacher. Most famously, driven by his animal side, he made a bold play to steal the wife of Hercules. Ultimately, his clever plot ended tragically, with the death of both Nessus and Hercules.

The Nessus Shiraz is a fragrant, bright, and full flavoured wine which displays all of the trademarks of a McLaren Vale Shiraz. It is also a wine that captures the soft, silky and seductive tannins which are a distinctive feature of Mitolo Shiraz wines.

The Nessus Shiraz is sourced from our vineyards at the southern end of McLaren Vale, close to the seaside town of Port Willunga. The rich, heavy clay soils and warm summer days produce a deeply coloured, full flavoured wine with soft, silky tannins. Shiraz fruit for the Nessus is crushed immediately after delivery to the winery, and the skin and juice mix is then allowed to warm naturally over the coming days. Fermentation is kept cool in order to retain the primary fruit characters in the wine.

Matured in older oak barrels, the Nessus Shiraz has an unobscured purity, a boisterous wild side, that competes with the restraining natural acidity; juxtaposed opposites delicately balanced just like the emotions of its namesake Nessus the centaur. Will drink best in its first two years
