Description
"A big, rich, juicy and spicy wine with black cherry aromas and high acidity. Just make sure you have a great slice of red meat nearby, or some nice sausages" Decanter Asia Wine Awards, Sep 2017
"Powerful and delectable, the wine shows rich fruit notes of black/blueberry and dark cherry combined with cedar, chocolate tart and cake spice nuances. The palate is concentrated and plush, delivering layers of delicious flavours backed by velvety texture and silky tannins. An impressive offering. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2018
Bright purple-red. Ripe blackberry and strawberry aromas are shot through with hints of espresso and chocolate earth. The palate is filled with dark berry fruit, which overflows into the long, seamless finish. The integrated American and French oak further enhance the texture and length of this full-bodied reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz.
The Davey Estate Vineyard is located in Whites Valley, at the southern end of the acclaimed McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia. Vintages over the last few years have tended to be early but 2015 sets a new record for McLaren Vale and South Australia. The Chardonnay harvest started on the 28th of January, a new record for the Davey Estate by at least a week. Average temperatures for August through November were significantly above average. . The only significant rainfall in the growing season was 25 mm on the 13th of January and although this caused some initial apprehension it just freshened the vines and focused their energy on the bunches they were nursin. The first Shiraz pick was on the 12th of February and harvest was completed on the 12th of March with Mataro. Flavours and colours across the board were excellent.
Only select parcels of Shiraz grown on both red & black soils over limestone on the Davey Estate vineyard are chosen for this reserve wine. The wine is hand-crafted in small open & static fermenters to maximise the potential of each small parcel of fruit. Maturation for an average of 15 months in new – 5 year old fine-grained American and French oak hogsheads softens, enhances & integrates the fruit & structural components of the wine
