Description
"Brilliant, even straw-yellow with pale green-golden hues, lighter on the edge. The bouquet is very refined and elegant in proportion with delicate but positive aromas of lime fruit with subtle secondary toastiness, and some hints of honey, and fine, penetrating mineral nuances. Medium-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is fine in concentration with a core and line of lime fruit, white florals and subtle notes of toast, honey and minerals. The mouthfeel features a fine-textured phenolic thread providing good linearity, with lacy acidity. The wine is balanced with positive energy, leading to an elegantly concentrated, lingering finish. This is an elegant and refined, medium-dry Riesling with delicate lime fruit and subtle complexing secondary notes of toast and minerals. Serve as an aperitif and with fine Asian fare over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit from the Felton Road vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.6% alc. and 14 g/L RS, TA 7.5 g/L. Winemakers: Anna Ward and Grant Taylor" Raymond Chan, Sep 2017
"What a fabulous bottle-aged riesling. The gorgeous bouquet shows lemon curd, mango, apple blossom and dried flower characters. It is concentrated and focused on the palate, and delivers delicious fruit flavours and whispering sweetness, wonderfully supported by seamlessly integrated acidity. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sept 2017
"Medium/dry Riesling with lovely soft yet tangy acidity and a strong slate/mineral influence giveing a classic Central Otago style. Very pure with a long (and moderately dry) finish and ethereal texture" Bob Campbell, Aug 2008
Wild Earth Riesling 2008 has a clean lush palate with sweet hints of honeysuckle that are beautifully balanced by the delicate acidity. The nose has a beautiful aroma of summer fruits citrus and a light hint of floral bouquet. With 9 years of age, this beautiful medium-dry style Riesling has a perfect contrast of subtlety and boldness. This Riesling is a wine for all occasions pairing with Asian fusion dishes, assorted cheeses, and antipasto platters, while also being a great standalone wine.
The grapes for this wine came from a vineyard located at the end of Felton Road in Bannockburn. These vines are sited on a broad terrace close to the Kawarau River, with full exposure to the northern sun. The Riesling grapes were pressed and the juice was put in a single tank where fermentation was undertaken. Once inoculated, the wine underwent a cool fermentation where the temperature was controlled throughout. The fermentation was stopped leavening residual sugars to balance out the acidity where it was then filtered in preparation for bottling.
