Chateau de Landiras, Graves 2014

AWARDED 95 POINTS: Decanter Magazine

AWARDED TROPHY: Best in Show - Decanter Magazine

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Gilbert et Gaillard 2016

Located at the southern end of the Graves region, very close to Barsac and Sauternes. Ch de Landiras is one of the oldest properties in Bordeaux, dating right back to the fourteenth century. Once owned by the Montferrand family (also previous owners of Ch Margaux the Landiras vineyards, which were eventually were neglected). In 1988, Peter Vinding-Diers became only the third owner of the property in 600 years and set about returning it to former glories. According to all the plaudits he's done a very good job!

"65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Great intensity of classic Bordeaux fruit on the nose, cassis, dark cherries and liquorice. The rich round palate is bursting with fresh blackberry and blackcurrant, lovely silky tannins great length all in perfect harmony." Decanter Magazine

Food Pairing: This wine deserves a beautifully rich pairing such as French classics of Coq au Vin or a hearty Pot-au-feu.

Viña Zorzal Cuatro del Cuatro 2015

AWARDED 90pts: Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

AWARDED 92pts: Guide Penin 2018 (Spain’s Wine Bible)

Only 2640 bottles were produced, and we have the 120 bottles allocated to New Zealand! Cuatro del Cuatro is a new and very rare wine from our friends at Viña Zorzal.  Dedicated to the family's patriarch, Antonio, who created the brand. Made from 37 year-old  Graciano vines (a Spanish red wine grape that is grown primarily in Rioja), a varietal that fascinated Antonio throughout his life. As the family describes:

“Today is the fourth of the fourth, a date that lends its name to our most special wine, the day on which our father was born. A man who put a great deal of effort into starting the project that we continue today. A man who put his faith in the graciano variety at a time when it had almost disappeared from our land.

The first Viña Zorzal wine was born of these graciano vines and, as such, we thought it is a good time to thank him for everything that we owe him.  With this wine we won't talk so much about terroir, or the way it was made, or vintages... but rather, Antonio will always be at its heart, a man who was born on the fourth of the fourth and has given us so much. We could not present a wine as special as this one, were it not for the sensitivity of our friends at Moruba, who, with their design, have helped give form to the feeling of love and affection behind this wine.”

More recently the wine has been very favourably reviewed by the Wine Advocate:

“There is also a new Graciano, homage to the family patriarch, the 2015 Cuatro del Cuatro, a riper and more serious expression of their regular Graciano, produced with a selection of grapes from their vineyard in Corella, in a zone that's slightly warmer than Fitero where the rest of their vineyards are. It fermented in 500-liter French oak barrels and then aged in 300-liter barriques for 12 months.” Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

Clear, bright, mid-intensity, garnet colour, with clean and intense bouquet of fruits of the forest and hints of earthiness and spice. The palate is persistent with dry and fresh flavours, marked by acidity. It is broad and balanced, full and meaty with flavours of fruits of the forest and spice. Some attractive bitterness and green notes, characteristic of the grape variety. This is a wine with minerality and distinctive character.

Food Pairing: Great with dishes that are inspired by this wines terroir, such as Spainish charcuterie such as 'Jamón serrano' or Paella.
