TROPHY NZ Reserve Wine of the Show + TROPHY NZ Champion Pinot Noir + TROPHY Champion Open Red Wine!
"Softly packed with concentrated aromas of ripe, primary, dark raspberry fruit along with dark-red plums and subtle notes of herbs and red florals" Raymond Chan
Along with the classic cheese pairings of Brie & Gruyere there is an exquisite assortment of out-of-the-box such as Abbaye de Belloc, whose mild, nutty flavour will pair excellently with this wine by not overwhelming its subtle qualities.

Description
"It is delightfully fruited and fragrant on the nose showing dark cherry, plum, floral and subtle spice characters, leading to a juicy palate that is smooth and attractive. The wine shows lovely fruit intensity and silky texture, finishing long and smooth. It is delectably fruited and very approachable for everyday drinking. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2017.
"Ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rim with some purple tints. The nose is softly packed with concentrated aromas of ripe, primary, dark raspberry fruit along with dark-red plums and subtle notes of herbs and red florals. Medium-bodied, the palate is soft and plush with sweetly ripe fruit flavours of dark raspberries entwined with plums and dark herbs. This is rounded and fleshy with up-front fruit flavours, and the fruit is underlined by light, supple tannins with integrated acidity, lending softness to the mouthfeel. The wine carries smoothly to a rounded, plummy finish. This is a soft, rounded, plush and juicy Pinot Noir with dark raspberry and plummy flavours on a supple palate. Match with antipasto, poultry and pork over the next 3 years. A blend of Awatere and Wairau fruit, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 20% new French oak" Raymond Chan, Aug 2017
A bouquet of ripe plum, wild berry and red currant introduce our 2016 Pinot Noir. The wine is bright and juicy with flavours of cranberry and red fruits. A soft tannin structure and integrated oak round out the palate.
Great wine is so much more than just fermented grape juice; it is an alchemy in which unique terroir and skilled wine making unite. At Dashwood, they create wines that are true reflections of New Zealand’s Marlborough region. They are as cool as the winds that whip through their valleys eachday and as imposing as the towering mountains that frame our vineyards.
The 2016 vintage of the Dashwood Pinot Noir is no exception to this rule, with every step of the wine making process their goal being to preserve the incredible
aromatics and scintillating structure of the terrior has to offer their wines. After harvesting they keept the fruit as cool as possible to retain bright, fresh Marlborough fruit flavours. Gentle crushing helps to preserve the personality of the variety and the influence of the site. Using traditional hand-plunging techniques
during fermentation to extract optimum colour and soft tannins. Our Pinot Noir is aged in French oak barriques to add complexity.

I'm a bit conflicted on this wine. Sure I bought it based on the high accolades that were used in promoting it and all of the awards that have been thrown at it in the national show but .... it's really just a solid example of a Marlborough Pinot Noir. Good price? Yes I paid $14 a bottle for it. Normal price? About $18 a bottle so I feel that I've got good value for money but I'm not going to go all silly and rave about it. What did the judges try (in comparison) at these wine shows? There are some stunning examples of Pinot Noir being made in New Zealand and Dashwood Pinot Noir 2016 is a good example of clean and serious winemaking but it's not sublime (nor should it be at $14 a bottle) but please reviewers, keep your feet on the ground. I rate it at about a 4 star.

Surprisingly enjoyable for a Marlborough Pinot Noir since I usually prefer that variety from Wairarapa or Central Otago. Very good value for money
