"Fabulous fruit purity together with stylish spicy/savoury nuances" Wine Orbit

"Rich and vibrantly sweet, lively fruit flavours of dark-red berry and cherry fruit with an amalgam of red and violet florals, and subtle herb note" Raymond Chan

Pair this beautifully elegant Pinot Noir with dishes that have a touch of spice such as char siu pork. Whilst roast or other cooked beetroot dishes work really well as a vegetarian alternative.

Description

"The wine offers fabulous fruit purity together with stylish spicy/savoury nuances, displaying red/black cherry, plum, floral, mixed spice and smoked game characters on the nose. The palate is concentrated and focused with juicy fruit intensity and fine texture, perfectly structured by fine, grainy tannins. Lovely poised and style. At its best; now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2017

"Dark ruby-red colour with some depth and light purple hues on the rim.  This has an elegantly concentrated nose with fine and firmly aromas of dark-red berry and black cherry fruit, along with subtle notes of black plums and savoury herbs, unfolding lifted violet florals and a little spice.  Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich and vibrantly sweet, lively fruit flavours of dark-red berry and cherry fruit with an amalgam of red and violet florals, with subtle herb note. The palate is very finely concentrated with good linearity, and the fruit is supported by fine-grained, supple tannins and fresh, lacy acidity.  The wine has a velvety flow with good energy and tension, leading to an elegant, lingering finish with a little spiciness.  This is a vibrant, lively, dark-red berry and cherry-fruited Pinot Noir with a finely concentrated palate, supple tannins and structure.  Seve with poultry, pork, beef and venison over the next 5-6 years.  A blend of 9 clones, the fruit from the ‘Home’, ‘McLeod’s’, ‘Fraters’, ‘Spring Rock’ and ‘Rua’ vineyards, vines 13-27 y.o., fully destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak" Raymond Chan, August 2017

Our 2016 Pinot Noir is richly coloured and delightfully fragrant. Vibrant bramble, wild berry and spice with hints of earthiness fill the nose. The palate is full and velvety with a long finish. At Te Kairanga, we have 250 acres of vines planted at four vineyard sites in the Martinborough appellation. This diversity
provides our winemaking team with a wide array of aromatics, flavours, textures and styles to work with. The Martinborough Terrace, considered one of the premier growing areas, is home to our Home and McLeods Vineyards. Once an ancient riverbed, it features deep gravel and alluvial soils and a mild climate. At slightly higher elevations with more extreme conditions are our Spring Rock and Rua vineyards. All of our properties are sustainably farmed. Under the direction of Chief Winemaker, John Kavanagh, our winemaking philosophy places a premium on the character of the site. Fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness from our Home, McLeod, Fraters, Spring Rock and Rua Vineyards. The 2016 growing season was one of the best ever for Martinborough. A mild, even spring allowed for excellent flowering and fruit set while sunny conditions through summer ripened the small berries in perfect condition. Of the nine clones that were selected, each parcel was vinified separately in small fermenters before being pressed off and matured for ten months in French oak barrels (20% new). The wine underwent crossflow filtration and egg white fining.
