Description

This Syrah has complex flavours of dark berries and plum with hints of violets pepper and smoke on the nose. The palate is rich and silky with a long fine spicy finish.

For over 20 years, Crossroads has represented the very best of small parcel winemaking. The Crossroads Milestone Series celebrates our dedication from the vineyard to the winery – creating benchmark wines from Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The 2014 Hawkes Bay vintage was one of the best years yet in Hawkes Bay for producing ripe elegant Syrah, it saw a lovely warm dry growing season with temperatures above the long term average .Through the growing season the vineyard was micromanaged with very early crop regulation and leaf removal in the fruit zone. Due to this careful viticulture we were able to achieve very even ripeness. By early April clean and ripe fruit was harvested from the Hill Rd, Elms, Mere and Bridgeman vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels sub region. After de-stemming the fruit was fermented in small stainless steel fermenters using a mixture of hand plunging and pump over techniques for cap management. After post ferment maceration on skins for optimum integration the batches went through Malolactic fermentation in tanks and older barriques .The wine was matured for fourteen months with regular topping. Bottled with no fining and light filtration.
