International Wine & Spirit Competition, May 2017
Description
This dry red wine is a very pretty pale shade of pink, with touches of violet at the edges. Scents of strawberries, flowers and a hint of creaminess. Clean crisp acidity, with delightful fruit, medium length, perfect for summer drinking.
This wine orginates from D.O. Cariñena region in the village of Alfamen, where winemaker Jose Manuel Mainar manages the 150 hectares of flat alluvial soils.
After a wet spring, there was an unfortunate hailstorm which affected the vines to the extent that the harvest was reduced by 50%. A long summer was perfect for growing Garnacha grapes. Healthy and well-balanced grapes were harvested, with greater intensity of flavours than other years. Harvested in late September to mid-October. The winemaking process which followed included destalking, crushing, pressed and decantation, with as little as possible skin contact. Fermented at 10 to 12ºC in stainless steel tanks.
