Fragrant aromas of ripe plums with spice, chocolate, and savoury oak. Fruit driven with dark black berries, plums with a hint of vanilla. The weighty and round ripe tannins are supported by well-balanced acidity and a toasted oak finish. Outstanding fruit for this wine was sourced from a number of vineyards within Hawke's Bay. The vigour moderating, free-draining gravel provides a superb base for this varietal. Once at the winery the wine was hand-plunged to gently extract flavour, colour, and tannin. This young wine was aged on light lees then blended, fined, balanced and carefully prepared for bottling. Drinking well now, this wine will continue to develop and impress for four to five years from vintage date.
Food Pairing: A great match with barbecued steak, or pizza.
