Description

"A gorgeous drinking riesling, the fragrant bouquet shows lemon curd, nectarine, jasmine and a hint of spice notes, leading to a delectably expressed palate that is finely textured and vibrant with subtle sweetness and perfectly pitched acidity. The wine shows lovely maturity, yet lively and refreshing. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sept 2017

Bright straw-yellow colour with pale lemon-gold hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is soft and light with a gently rounded core of savoury lime fruit along with subtle white florals, hints of honey and secondary toasty and earthy detail. Medium-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a soft core with complex flavours of lime fruit and secondary toast and honey notes all melded harmoniously. The palate has light phenolic textures providing a little drying grip to the mouthfeel, and some lively background acidity. The core of flavours flow to a light finish of savoury toast. This off-dry Riesling is showing secondary development with savoury lime, floral honey and toasty flavours on a slightly drying palate. Serve as an aperitif and with poultry over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the Felton Road vineyard cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.3% alc. and 10.4 g/L RS, TA 6.16 g/L and pH 3.06. Winemaker: Steve Davies" Raymond Chan, Sep 2017

Light in colour with pale straw hues, offering lifted citrus, marmalade and perfumed floral aromas on the nose. The palate offers complex citrus of lemon, grapefruit, orange zest, a hint of honey and lovely minerality, giving an enticing length and a dry finish.

This Riesling comes from a single vineyard located on Felton Road in Bannockburn. These vines are perfectly situated on a broad terrace close to the Kawarau River, with full exposure to northern sun. This particular vintage had a delayed start with cool weather until January. After the New Years, summer came through in full force developing the fruit in a unique and intriguing way producing never before seen duality of intensity and subtlety. A single tank fermentation was undertaken with a specific style of Riesling in mind. The juice was inoculated and underwent a cool fermentation, where temperature was controlled over this period. Fermentation was stopped by chilling, in order to balance the natural acidity with residual sugar.

Food Pairing: Matching perfectly with oysters, green salads, vegetable soups, white fish, duck, chicken and pork.
