Description

'Brightly flavoured and beautifully fragrant, this appealing sauvignon shows nectarine, rockmelon, lime zest and green apple characters on the nose. The palate is juicy and well fruited, and displays fine texture and refreshing acidity. It is attractively fruited and delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2018.' Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2017

'Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. This has a softly full nose with aromas of green stonefruits and savoury tropical fruits entwined with cut grass and fresh herbs, unfolding waxy and mineral elements. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate has moderately intense flavours of green stonefruits, cut grass, tropical fruits and herbs with mineral suggestions. The mouthfeel is crisp and zesty with brisk acidity, and the wine flows along a soft-textured phenolic line, leading to a light thirst-quenching finish with flavours of gooseberries, herbs and cut grass. This is a moderately intense, mouthwatering Sauvignon Blanc with stonefruit, herb, cut grass and tropical fruit flavours on a soft-textured, but zesty palate. Match with Mediterranean and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from the home vineyard at Opaki as well as from the ‘Hillview’ site in Martinborough, cool-fermented in tank to 12.5% alc.' Raymond Chan, June 2017

This vibrant, aromatic wine has flavours of passionfruit and limes, with a lively citrus finish. On the palate you will see good tension and fruit concentration red apple finish. We love to drink it with seafood and pasta dishes and delicious summer salads. No cellaring required.

The fruit for this wine is sourced from 20 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc plantings at our home vineyard at Opaki in the Wairarapa, as well as the Hillview vineyards in Martinborough. These are young vines that carry a small crop of intensely flavoured grapes. We have several different blocks of Sauvignon Blanc where we use various canopy management techniques to provide us with a range of complex flavours from the grapes. The long dry spell prior to the 2016 harvest meant we had good, clean, ripe fruit with intense varietal flavours.

The focus in the winery is to capture the pure fruit flavours that come from the vineyard whilst adding complexity through our winemaking efforts to provide a multi-dimensional wine. This is achieved by tank-fermenting the juice using yeasts that are able to ferment to low temperatures – preserving the essential fruit flavours and purity of the wine.
