Description
The nose offers a bouquet of rich aromas of citrus, almond custard, fennel and resinous juniper. The complimenting palate of soft, round, entry to a dry medium body with strong juniper, sandalwood and menthol notes is finsihed with an intense botanical, candied lemongrass, ginger and pepper fade.
The word mare is deeply rooted in Mediterranean culture. Derived originally from the Latin mar meaning sea, it can be applied to a sense of maternity - the universal concept of ‘Mare Nostrum’ – the Mediterranean Sea that unifies all the communities that live around it and share a common culture, which enjoy the finest food and drink, an exceptional climate and a unique lifestyle in which time goes by at a different pace.
Gin Mare is the product of a new generation of a family with a long history distilling the finest spirits in the very heart of the Mediterranean. Located in Spain, the distillery site is a 19th Century chapel built in a small fishing village between the beautiful Costa Brava and Costa Dorad a, south of Barcelona. Gin Mare establishes a new benchmark for innovation in the super premium gin category, taking as its inspiration the different cultures and finest natural botanicals of the Mediterranean region. Sun drenched citrus fruits, Arbequina olives, thyme, basil and rosemary give this exceptional gin genuine warmth and depth of character, a true reflection of the very people that inspired its creation.
Gin Mare’s unique production process begins with the highest quality barley grain neutral spirit base. Each of the botanicals undergoes an individually attentive treatment, with the citrus fruits being first macerated in special earthenware jars for one year. When the macerates have captured the aromatic citrus oils ready for distillation, the remaining classic botanicals – juniper (harvested on site), coriander and green cardamom - are prepared, as well as the signature Mediterranean botanicals - Arbequina olive, rosemary, basil and thyme. Each botanical is then macerated for more than thirty-six hours, before being distilled separately in Gin Mare’s boutique custom built 180 litre copper Florentine still. Finally the character of each distillate is hand blended together to a harmonious whole, softened with purified water and bottled in the inimitably stylish decanter.

Great Gin for a Martini, especially then paired with Mount Edward vermouth. In a G & T the sweetness of Schweppes tonic overpowers it a bit. Goes much better with Fever Tree tonic.

A lovely gin, not too heavy.
