Description
This Pinot Gris displays lovely ripe pear and peach notes with attractive floral and spice aspect. The wine is generous on the palate with rich fruit flavours and impressive palate weight. The delicious fruit flavours are beautifully balanced by a fine line of acidity.
Marlborough’s temperate, maritime influenced, climate provides ideal growing conditions allowed the winemaker to craft expressive wines with elegance and structure. Cooler than average temperatures and low rainfall characterised the beginning of the 2016 season. Mid season warmth coupled with a few timely rain events helped relieve drought conditions and kept the vines healthy. Ideal late season, settled, weather allowed the winemaker to leave fruit on the vines until the flavours were nice and concentrated.
The fruit was harvested for this wine from premium vineyards in the Awatere & Southern Valley sub-regions of Marlborough.
Once at the winery, a small batch focus allowed for careful flavour management and varietal expression. Partial wild ferment enhanced the expressive flavours from the vineyard and a portion of this wine was fermented in oak barrels, to add texture and to impart an attractive, underlying, spice note. After fermentation, the wine was left on lees to further add to the wine’s impressive weight and mouthfeel.
