Description
The 2016 Clearwater Cove Chardonnay has ripe nectarine and peach with some lifted citrus flower high notes on the nose. The palate combines summer stone fruits with a full but fresh finish.
The 2016 growing season started out incredibly dry with some predicting a severe drought. Fortunately some unseasonal rains in February set the vines up for a great final ripening period. March and April were very consistent, with warm and dry weather experienced throughout Marlborough allowing a harvest that wasn’t dictated by the weather.
The grapes for the 2016 Chardonnay were harvested at optimum ripeness, showing nice tropical aromatics with balanced acids. The parcel was gently pressed off immediately with the free run juice being settled for 48 hours. The clear juice was then racked off and fermented in stainless steel tanks in a unoaked style. It was then stabilized, fined and filtered prior to bottling.

In these beautiful, but harsh, conditions our vines struggle for survival, producing low yields of high quality fruit with concentrated flavors.
