"Pleased, stoked, proud to say that our little old Syrah took out four trophies at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London, including Best New Zealand Red and Best International Syrah...no jokes! All the way over on this side of the world, we've been smiling a bit about this one! Being self-confessed Syrah junkies makes it all the more sweet. Description
"Fabulous aromas of dark plum, mixed berry compote, cocoa, hazelnut and clove lead to a concentrated and powerful palate that is impressively fruited and richly textured. This is opulent yet elegant, showing lovely harmony and integration, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2022." Sam Kim Wine Orbit
Aromas of violet and cassis with a palate that is complex, fleshy and tastes of thyme, dark plum and earth. The palate is fleshy and the tannins chalky, with underlying power and precision.
Handpicked fruit was completely destemmed into open top tanks and left to sit for up to ten days until it began to ferment naturally. We plunged it gently and then with gusto as it was fermented hot. Primary ferment lasted for around nine days, then the wine was held on skins for a total of 30 days. It was pressed and run to the cellar to be aged in French oak barriques through winter before it went through malo in spring. The wine rested until blending on the 8th of December 2016.
Our grapes were grown on a hillside vineyard with a view over the plains and an old riverbed Vineyard, free draining and unyieldingly hot. The 2015 season was beautifully set up with a calm, hot summer. The fruit was hand harvested on the 12th and 23rd of April 2015. There is a blend of Chave, Grippat and MS clone, which were eventually blended in the winery.

A beautifully balance Syrah, soft but with some spiciness.
