Description

"Impressively ripe and opulent, the beautifully lifted bouquet shows blackberry, cherry pie, warm spice and smoked meat aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is plump and fleshy. The wine shows attractive fruit intensity together with seductive savoury nuances, wonderfully framed by silky texture and supple tannins. The wine offers great value and makes it a fabulous food partner. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim Wine Orbit, May 2017

Chateau de Pena is a classic blend of 35% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 25% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. This gives a wine that is deeply dark with a heavenly bouquet of warm stone and dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant liqueur and tobacco. On the palate it gives amazing freshness and length marked with ripe tannins.

Located in the lovely village, Cases de Pene, Château de Pena is situated 15km from Perpignan. The vineyard stretches over a terroir of clay and limestone, consisting of soils of marl and black shale. It spreads over the foothills of the Corbières. This exceptional terroir, facing due south and south-east in a seaward direction, produces an extraordinary Cotes du Roussillon Villages that is classic Southern French value for money.

Matches well with a roasted boletus sauce, a stew of venison, a Cantal or a Roquefort.
