Description
It’s no wonder Pinot Gris is the go to variety for wine lovers – check this one out! Made in a distinctly French Alsace style, this delicious number’s got plenty of taste, it’s a little bit exotic and what’s easily the best is, it won’t empty your wallet.
"Spun golds hues and very bright appearance; attractive and enticing aromas of baked pear and spice, quince and soft apple tones; a mineral stony layer adds depth and complexity; an intriguing bouquet overall. On the palate – juicy and salivating, fruity and quite complex, some lees like characters, vibrant acidity and flavours that reflect the bouquet, quite a lengthy finish finishing dry. A lovely wine to enjoy from today and through 2021." Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier
"The inviting bouquet shows baked pear, orange peel, fig and spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is fruit expressive and beautifully rounded. The wine delivers generosity and richness, wonderfully framed by juicy acidity, finishing long and tasty. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim Wine Orbit ,Jan 2017.
Very much modelled on the Alsace style of Pinot Gris that is richer and more complex. A portion was barrel fermented to develop texture and complexity in the final wine. The palate displays aromas of pear, nectarine and toasted almonds leading to a lingering dry finish. This wine is best enjoyed in its youth but will further develop over the next 4 years.
Fruit for this Pinot Gris is from a vineyard in the northern Wairarapa and a blend of two different clones. Young vines with a small crop that reached very good ripeness in a long season and a cooler summer followed by a warm dry autumn.
To develop some richness and creaminess in this wine, part of the wine was barrel-fermented 30% of the blend in old barrels. A variety of yeasts (including some wild ferments) were used in barrels to build complexity in the wine. Of the tank-fermented portion, an aromatic yeast was used to capture that fresh varietal character of Pinot Gris.

Not your normal Pinot Gris. Hard to describe - maybe more like a Riesling? I didn't really like it, so I made my husband drink it. He quite liked it though.
