Southern France Discovery Case - 6 of the best!

Top critics have described the Languedoc region as France's best value fine wine region: here's the proof. Six wines, packed with intense fruit flavour and spice, with a clutch of Gold medals between them.

This case includes:

1 x Calmel + JJoseph Vieux Carignan 2014

Awarded Gold Medal: Concours National IGP 2016

Awarded 17/20: Jancis Robinson MW

"Made from 100 year-old vines. We love the Carignan grape, especially when made from old vines which produce concentrated, intense and delicious wines. 2014 was a good, sunny vintage. On the nose, this wine has aromas of fig and garrigue herbs typical of ancient Carignan vines grown on hillsides. The palate is delicate, with a fine balance between taste and tannins, suppleness and acidity. A wonderfully rich, elegant example of this Languedoc grape variety."

1 x Domaine Plan Du Roy 'La Clape' Languedoc 2014

Awarded 4 Stars: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Awarded Silver Medal: Concours du Languedoc-Roussillon 2015

"This beautifully fruited wine from the warm southern France shows fragrant aromas of dark cherry, plum, clove and toasted almond on the nose, followed by a succulent palate that is rounded and smooth, and finishes delicately dry. The wine offers lovely savoury complexity as well, making it a wonderful food partner. At its best: now to 2018."

1 x Notre Dame de L'Arca Côtes du Roussillon 2015

Awarded Gold Medal: Gilbert & Gaillard 2016

"If you love southern French reds, this superbly priced wine might be just the ticket. A classic blend of Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre reveals fabulous aromas of dark fruit, clove, toasted almond and cocoa on the nose. It is succulent and rounded on the palate, and delivers plush mouthfeel that is perfect with a summer BBQ."

1 x Domaine Lafage Côté Sud 2014

Awarded 91/100 Points: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Awarded 90/100 Points: Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate

Awarded Silver Medal: Concours General Agricole Paris 2016

"A gorgeous syrah and grenache blend, the lifted nose shows dark berry, raspberry, floral and smoked meat characters. It is generous and flavoursome on the palate, and delivers loads of tasty flavours, finishing long and succulent. The wine offers delectable fruit flavours with a warm spicy finish. At its best: now to 2017." Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

1 x Villa Blanche Syrah 2014

Awarded Gold Medal: Gilbert & Gaillard 2016

"Beautiful deep dark colour. Dominated by black fruit aromas (blackberry, blackcurrant, fig). The mouth is intense, full-bodied with beautiful silky tannins. Ends wit a spicy finish and more dark fruits. Perfect with red meat and spicy food." - Winery Notes

1 x Chateau de Pena Cotes du Roussillon Villages 2014

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Lyon 2016

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Vinalies International 2016

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Berliner Wein Trophy 2015

Chateau de Pena is a classic blend of 35% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 25% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. This gives a wine that is deeply dark with a heavenly bouquet of warm stone and dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant liqueur and tobacco. On the palate it gives amazing freshness and length marked with ripe tannins
