"It is concentrated and focused on the palate"
Single vineyard, pure varietal expression, exquisite texture, fine oak complexity and mouth-filling decadence. You’ll need plenty of discipline to keep your hands off this golden beauty.
" A beautifully styled chardonnay, the engaging bouquet shows grapefruit, white stone fruit, cedar and vanilla aromas. It is concentrated and focused on the palate, and offers excellent mid palate weight and fine texture, combined with bright acidity, finishing superbly long and appealing. The wine is flavoursome and firmly structured at the same time, promising to develop beautifully. At its best: now to 2020." Sam Kim Wine Orbit, July 2016
"Bright, even straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, lighter on the rim. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with penetration, precision and finesse of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with citrus fruit detail, and subtle nutty barrel-ferment elements and spicy, aromatic oak. This has freshness and cut. Medium-bodied, the palate is finely concentrated with citrus and white and yellow stonefruit flavours melded with nutty and spicy oak. Nuances of creamy barrel-ferment textures are balanced by crisp and racy acidity lending a slippery mouthfeel. The flavours flow with good energy and tension along a fine phenolic threaded line, leading to a fresh, lively and clear finish with citrus fruit and spicy oak notes. This is an elegant and refined citrussy Chardonnay with spicy oak and a fresh mouthfeel with energy and tension. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 5+ years. Mendoza and clone 15 fruit from a single site in the Dartmoor Valley, pressed directly to barrel with high solids and fermented to 13.5% alc, approx. 60% by indigenous yeasts, the wine aged 11 months on lees in 35% new French oak, avoiding MLF. 18.0+/20" Raymond Chan, August 2016
Sourced from a single vineyard in the Dartmoor Valley in Hawkes Bay, this is a rich, barrel fermented Chardonnay with the accent on complexity and fruit weight. Ripe stonefruit and citrus aromas combine with hints of toasty oak, leading to a silky and elegant finish.
Perfect with seafood or pasta made with rich, cream-based sauces or with roasted chicken. Already enjoyable, this wine will continue to improve over the next 3 to 7 years.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in the upper reaches of the Dartmoor Valley in Hawkes Bay. The vineyard is planted in two different clones of Chardonnay, Mendoza and Clone 15. The Mendoza in particular gives concentrated, focused fruit at low crop levels. This ensures even ripening and great flavour development.
The fruit for this wine was pressed straight after picking, with the cloudy juice then being transferred directly for fermentation into French oak barrels, with 35% new oak, using approximately 60% wild yeasts. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was left on lees in barrel for 11 months to promote texture and mouthfeel.
