Description
"A fabulous rose showing lifted aromas of raspberry coulis, apple blossom, grapefruit and a hint of creamy notes on the nose. The palate is flavoursome and vibrant with excellent fruit intensity and purity, wonderfully framed by bright acidity. The wine is up front and attractive, and offers terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2018" Sam Kim Wine Orbit, Feb 2017
"Bright, even, peach-pink colour with pale purple hues on the rim. The nose is fresh and taut with restrained aromas of red berry fruits, yellow stonefruits and steely, mouthwatering, chalky mineral notes, unfolding red florals with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate possesses a rounded but firm core with positive drive and line, revealing subtle red berry fruits along with red florals and mineral elements. The palate flows along a finely-textured line with background acidity, and the wine carries easily to a dry, lingering finish with nuances of red fruits and minerals. This is a soft, textural dry rosé with restrained red berry fruit flavours, but good palate presence and a dry finish. Serve as an aperitif, and match with poultry and pork over the next 2+ years. Merlot fruit from the ‘Te Awanga Estate’ vineyard, vines 10-18 y.o., given 3 hours skin contact and cool-fermented in tank to 13.5% alc., and 0.3 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees" Raymond Chan, Feb 2017
This dry style of Rosé is made to be enjoyed day or night, with food or without….All things to all people! Aromas of strawberry and red fruits predominate with a hint of spice. The wine is full bodied with excellent acidity and freshness. Serve chilled.
The juice for this wine is given around three hours of skin contact to achieve a light Strawberry Blonde colour, before being pressed, settled and fermented in the same way as we normally make our white wines. The wine was aged on lees for a few months to increase the palate richness and balance. It was then lightly filtered and bottled, ready for summer 2017.
Premium grapes were first grown in Te Awanga at the beginning of last century. The warm coastal climate, gentle sea breezes and the shallow clay soils combine to produce award winning wines of great varietal flavour and finesse.
The autumn weather in 2016 was warm and settled. Our Merlot vines, range from 10 to 18 years old with a combination of rootstocks. The mix of clay, alluvial silts, volcanic ash and gravels make this an interesting and high quality site. The area is proven to produce grapes of great concentration and finesse.
