Description
"Beautifully ripe and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark cherry, floral, game and floral notes, leading to a juicy palate that is rounded and silky. The wine offers excellent mid palate weight and fine texture, together with elegant savoury complexity, finishing long, smooth and delicately dry. Elegant yet flavoursome. At its best: now to 2020." Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"You’re getting great value for money here. Floral scents mingle with a hint of damp straw that is very Martinborough. In the mouth it is finely wrought, complex, with wonderful focus and precision. The tannins are a triumph –elegant but tightly wound, asking tohave afewyearsin thecellar toopen up.Over the last couple of vintages, winemaker John Kavanagh has quietly been making his mark. Definitely a winery to watch." Cuisine Magzine, issue 182, April 2017
"The refined 2015 vintage is instantlyappealing. Deep ruby, it is mouthfilling, ripe and supple, with generous plum/ spice flavours, gentle tannins, and good complexity. Skilfully crafted, it is beautifully poised;drink now or cellar. Fine value." Michael Cooper's NZ Wine Buyers Guide 2017
Our 2015 Pinot Noir is richly coloured with aromas of bright red berry fruits and notes of spice. On the palate, the wine is savoury and complex with a fine tannin structure.
At Te Kairanga, we have 250 acres of vines planted at four vineyard sites in the Martinborough appellation. This diversity provides our winemaking team with a wide array of aromatics, flavours, textures and styles to work with. The Martinborough Terrace, considered one of the premier growing areas, is home to our Home and McLeods Vineyards. Once an ancient riverbed, it features deep gravel and alluvial soils and a mild climate. At slightly higher elevations with more extreme conditions are our Spring Rock and Rua vineyards. All of our properties are sustainably farmed.
Under the direction of Chief Winemaker, John Kavanagh, our winemaking philosophy places a premium on the character of the site. Fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness from our Home, Springrock and Rua Vineyards. A cool and very windy spring affected flowering producing a small, concentrated crop. Low rainfall and sunny conditions through the peak of summer ripened the fruit in excellent condition with many small berries. Of the nine clones that were selected, each parcel was vinified separately in small fermenters before being pressed off and matured for ten months in French oak barrels (20% new). The wine underwent light filtration and egg white fining.
