Description

Pure Gold Medal Air NZ Wine Awards + 93/100 Points

Pinot Noir release from one of our top Central Otago suppliers.  Crafted by the region’s modest magician star creator of this fickle grape variety, it’s a welcome discovery.  It’s available to Pinot Noir lovers for a limited time with limited volume, at this special release price.

93pts (5 Stars)" A beautifully composed pinot, the elegantly fragrant bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, floral and cedar characters with a touch of spice complexity. The palate is concentrated and rounded, and displays silky texture and fine, polished tannins. The wine is refined and flavoursome at the same time, and offers gorgeous drinking. At its best: now to 2019." Wine Orbit

Wine making notes:

Hand harvested fruit was destemmed into stainless steel tanks to undergo a brief period of cold soak, before being inoculated with selected wine yeasts to carry out the fermentation.  The wine was aged in French Oak barriques for 10 months, of which 29% was new oak.  The resulting wine is vibrant and plush with great Pinosity and lasting length.

A wonderful wine from a boutique winery. Although a "mystery" wine, the wording pointed me to the supplier - and I was right!

Beautiful with plenty of Central Otago grunt. Tasted with Lamb shanks, superb.

John - 29/05/2017

Very nice 2013 ......., I have enjoyed this wine many times in the past, slightly different central pinot with almost floral flavours

The Archangel is very typically Central Otago Pinot, rich complex flavours and therefore very highly rated value for money.

Mike - 20/02/2017

Lovely drop!!

Maree - 10/10/2016

Quite disappointed; normally the mystery wines are outstanding!! Not a clean taste or rich in flavour as expected from a Central Otago pinot noir. Won't be reordering
