GOLD MEDAL Barossa Shiraz by Grant Burge, a 5th generation Barossa vigneron

The palate is full silky with rich layers of black fruit, blackberry and subtle black pepper notes. The soft integrated tannin profile gives the wine a real elegance and mid palate structure.

Description

Grant Burge is a 5th generation Barossa vigneron. The history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in the region can be traced back to 1855

The fruit was sourced from different vineyards within the Barossa. Once harvested it was crushed and de-stemmed prior to being pressed off skins after 7 or 8 days. Both free run and pressings were used in the wine, which was then matured in a combination of American and French oak hogsheads (5% new) for 12 months.

Grant Burge is a 5th generation Barossa vigneron. The history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in the region can be traced back to March 1855, when noted tailor John Burge immigrated to the Barossa with his wife Eliza and their two sons, Meshach and Henry.

The 2015 vintage in the Barossa experienced a cool winter with average rainfall. There was good sub-surface moisture leading up to budburst. December and January were cooler than average which helped to maintain healthy vines and acid retention. A reasonably dry February and mild temperatures in March provided good ripening conditions and full flavoured wine styles.

This was the second purchase of this wine, because we had enjoyed the first one so much. I have some of Burge's Filsel which we keep for special occasions. 5th Generation means we don't have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy a Grant Burge bottle or two.

John - 10/08/2017

A great taste to have a glass of this to accompany my meal.

Natalie - 31/07/2017

A full bodied Shiraz with cherry and plum notes and a hint of pepper. Great value for money from a top Barrossa vineyard.

Geoffrey - 28/07/2017
