Description

First time ever, available for sub $30

This tasty Central Otago drop is produced by one of Alexandra’s top Pinot Noir boutique producers.  Over the last decade, this quiet achiever has amassed a tally of impressive awards and reviews for many of their wines.  Carefully crafted by one of the region’s acclaimed Pinot Noir proponents this wine offers exceptional value.  It’s darn good and it’s very limited.

"This is sweetly fruited and richly savoury, displaying complex aromas of mature fruit, smoked meat and earthy mushroom with hints of nutmeg and spice on the nose. The palate is silky smooth and beautifully rounded, and offers layers of fine texture and polished tannins, leading to a lingering, pleasingly dry finish. A wonderfully harmonious pinot for those who love mature savoury style. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim Wine Orbit, August 2016

Aromas of red fruits with spice and dried herbs, together with savoury mushroom characters.  On the palate, rich sweet red and black cherry with spicy oak, dried herbs and hints of leather.  A medium bodied, well structured wine with fine silky tannins and a long finish.

Sourced from a westerly facing vineyard that misses the early morning sun but bakes in the late sun.  Vines are tended by hand 12-14 times a season with shoot thinning to two shoots per spur, tucking up, lateral removal, bunch thinning to 2 bunches per shoot, shoulder removal and leaf plucked for maximum sun exposure pre-veraison, removal of non-coloured bunches post veraison Bunch weights averaged 80g per bunch.

Bunches were 100% de-stemmed with six days cold soak, fermented for 12 days reaching maximum temperature of 32C and left on skins post ferment for 4 days until the tannin balance sought was achieved . The wine was then lightly settled prior to maturation in traditional French oak barrels with 33% new oak.

Had just purchased `Three sons` version of this brand, which is superb. Found this one good, but not as good as Three sons version.

Arthur - 07/09/2016

Not as full bodied as I would have expected from such a good label, very nice though.
