Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

Description

"90pts... Fresh, fragrant and inviting"

"Bright, very pale straw with slight green hues, near colourless.  The nose is softly concentrated and well packed with pungent aromas of passionfruit harmoniously melded with subtle notes of cut grass, fresh herbs and thirst-quenching mineral elements.  Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, this has a softly concentrated core of passionfruit flavours entwined with cut grass, fresh herbs and subtle mineral nuances.  The fruit has sweetness and richness, balanced by fine, dry textures and crisp, gently refreshing lacy acidity.  The wine flows easily to an elegant finish of passionfruit, green apples and lime juice.  This is a softly concentrated and gently rich, passionfruity Sauvignon Blanc with fine, dry textures and lacy acidity.  Serve with Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years.  Fruit from the Upper Awatere Clark Estate ‘Home’ block, fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 3 g/L RS." Raymond Chan

"Fresh, fragrant and inviting, the bouquet shows grapefruit, nectarine, lime zest and dill aromas, leading to a vibrant palate that is filled with tasty flavours. The wine is punchy and juicy, and offers plenty of varietal intensity, finishing long and mouth-watering. At its best: now to 2018". Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.

Trapped in the bottle are Galeforce aromas of ripe gooseberry and passion fruit, whilst the palate is intense and layered with nettles, stone fruits and subtle minerality with balanced acidity providing a long lingering finish.

The fruit was Machine harvested and handled as gently as possible once in the winery to preserve any of the vibrant fruit flavours. Fermentation was completed under cool conditions in Stainless Steel and stopped once there was a natural balance between any residual sugar and the zesty acidity of the Awatere.
