Description

There’s something truly delicious with wine from this region – some might say, a certain “je ne sais quoi” perhaps.. Crafted by one of our favourite NZ owned producers, this Pinot Noir is seriously hitting it’s straps now for drinkability.  Ridiculous value, offering brilliant varietal expression and a little something extra, mystique-like for effect.  Superb!

"93pts... It is beautifully expressed on the nose displaying dark berry, game, earthy mushroom and nutty characters. The palate delivers excellent fruit concentration and silky texture, elegantly framed by fine, polished tannins. The wine offers generous fruit richness together with subtle savoury complexity, making it delectable and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2020." Sam Kim Wine Orbit

This soft Pinot Noir shows dark plum and cherry flavours with subtle oak characters. On the palate, the vibrant cherry comes through with a hint of spicy, toasty oak and velvety tannins.

The blocks that have selected for this Pinot Noir receive additional attention during the growing season, and are made up of a mix of clones including 114, 115, Abeland 10/5. In the final blend, each different clone adds its own character and complexities to the finished wine. 2014 was an excellent vintage, with warm stable weather through flowering followed by a long, warm and dry summer with hot days and cool nights.

In the winery, the different batches of fruit are processed separately so that we can see the individual characters on their own. We then add further complexities by incorporating different techniques and yeast combinations. The grapes are soaked for between one to threedays prior to fermentation at about 28 –32 degrees celsius. We allow up to 21 days maceration post-ferment on skins before the grapes are pressedoff. The wine is then matured in a range of different French oak barrels (40% new), before being individually tasted and assessed prior to final blending.

P
Great wine but as it is always presented as a mystery wine. After my first order I have ordered it two more times unknowingly when I would have preferred to try another wine.

I have purchased this wine before as a mystery. It is nice and good value for money. But if I knew it was the same mystery wine again, I probably would have chosen another. Blackmarket needs to develop a way of informing customers if they are about to buy the same mystery wine again.
