"It is bright and inviting on the nose showing black cherry, raspberry and floral characters with subtle spice and almond notes. The palate delivers excellent fruit purity and focus, and offers rounded mouthfeel and silky texture. The wine is beautifully fruited and elegant, and finishes persistent and juicy. A delightfully appealing pinot. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim Wine Orbit May 2016.
The palate is rich and juicy like a Sunday roast with tons of applesauce with sweet red and dark berry fruits. These fruit flavours are framed by more deliciousness French oak spice and subtle toasty notes. Fine tannins and a silky texture flows to a lingering finish.
The nose is bursting with smushed fruity goodness ripe cherry, plum and wild blackberry, supported by sweet clove, cinnamon and mocha.
This year was another ripper, perfect for getting a summer tan great growing season in Central Otago. The warm, dry ripening season resulted in even Pinot Noir ripening and great flavour concentration.
The fruit for this wine was found in the middle of nowhere selected from cool, elevated sites in Central Otago. Once the grapes were juicy and oh-so-delicious reached optimal ripeness, they were carefully harvested. At the winery, the fruit was left for a while underwent an initial cold soak for 3 days to maximise colour and flavour extraction. The wine was inoculated with a special Pinot Noir yeast strain to enhance complexity and texture, hand-plunged up to 3 times daily. Tannin structure was made even more awesome further developed by leaving the wine on skins for 20 days. The wine was then pressed and matured in a selection of new and seasoned oak barriques, maturing for 10 months before wrapping things up being filtered and bottled into this exceptional wine.
