Description

"Grapes were sourced from Te Muna and Lake Ferry Roads for this savoury pinot. The fragrant bouquet shows dark berry, smoked meat, mushroom and mixed spice characters with subtle dried herb complexity. The palate is elegantly fruited and finely textured, nicely structured by fine, polished tannins. At its best: now to 2018." Sam Kim Wine Orbit

This 2014 Pinot Noir has a bright colour and a sweet floral bouquet of red cherries, forest floor and wild berries. The palate is quite full bodied and carries an abundance of sweet fruit and ripe silky tannins. The wine has a fine structure and really fantastic fruit intensity, supple mouthfeel and a great finish.

Cellar Potential: Crafted to provide drinking pleasure in the term short; this Pinot Noir will develop more complexity over the next 5-10 years.

The fruit from the different vineyards was crushed to different fermenters. There was a daily pump over regime. The fermentation was fairly warm and fast and there was a two day pre-ferment maceration. After fermentation there was daily tasting to find when the wine had gained its optimum texture before pressing. The wines had 14 days post fermentation maceration. The wine was matured in tank to produce a forward, fruit driven style.

The vineyards are located on Te Muna Road and Lake Ferry Road. The soils are stony and naturally devigorating. The vines were trained using careful canopy management and cropped at approximately 6.5 tonnes per hectare. The fruit was harvested at over 24.5 Brix on 7th April.
