Description

  • French oak
  • Dark cherry & plum
  • Toasted nut
  • Silky tannins

"Complex and inviting, the beautifully lifted bouquet shows spiced cherry, dried herb, dark mushroom and toasted nut characters. It's wonderfully rounded and supple on the palate, displaying excellent weight and plush texture, well supported by plenty of silky tannins. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jan 2021

"Moderate ruby-red with moderate transparency, lighter edged. The bouquet is full, underlying power, aromas of rich, succulent black cherries, melded with blackberries, dark herbs, baking spices. Full-bodied, nuances of black cherries, baked blackberries intermix rich herbs and liquorice. The palate filled with tannin extraction coated the palate with silk yet firm grip, cooked fruit, and herbs left a broad mouthfeel" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Aug 2021

Ripe dark cherry and plum aromas with hints of Central Otago wild herbs. The palate is concentrated yet beautifully balanced with silky fine-grained tannins providing the framework for agebility and development of flavour.

The winemakers aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit they can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles they believe they are doing their best to help achieve this and let their vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.

The grapes were de-stemmed into open top French cuves and left to cold soak for a week before spontaneous fermentation, which lasted for about 3 weeks. The wine is then pressed off into a mixture of seasoned and new (20%) French oak, where it matured for 14 months before filtering and bottling. Fined with organic egg whites. Clones: Abel, 115, 777, 5 and 667.

Good density and complexity. Drinking good now. 4.75 would be my vote, similar but not quite as good as same priced Tankersley Estate CO Pinot (2015) also available at Black Market
