Great with red meat dishes but especially good with game, especially duck & venison

"Aromas of meats and baking spices, forest flowers and wild red berries. Raspberry and blackcurrant, earthy with a fruits core, some pepper and sweet barrel wood aromas. Complex and very enticing. On the palate - satins textures give way to firm tannins and youthful acidity. Flavours of black currant and ripe dark berries then sweet wood and barrel smoked meats. Delicious, but young. Best drinking from late 2021 through 2027+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Mar 2021
"Certified organic, the 2019 vintage (4.5*) was grown in the company's Roy's Hill and Mere Road vineyards, hand-picked, and matured for over 18 months in French oak barrels (20 per cent new). It has deep, bright, purple-flushed colour and a scented, spicy bouquet. A strongly varietal, youthful wine, it has vibrant, plum and black-pepper flavours, showing very good density, and obvious cellaring potential. Best drinking 2023+" Michael Cooper
"Stonecroft Serine Syrah is one of the most impressive full-bodied reds from Hawke’s Bay, made with grapes grown in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District, the most famous 800 hectares of stony vineyard land in the country. Dark fruit flavours of black plums intermingle in this tasty dry wine with aromas of cedar, vanilla, mocha and sweet spice. It drinks well now when decanted but begs to be aged for at least four to five years to start hitting its more mellow strides" Joelle Thomson
Deep ruby red colour. A fruity bouquet with notes of blackcurrant, blueberry and raspberry. Rich black fruit flavours together with notes of pepper and spice. It has a smooth finish and will develop further complexity with bottle age.
2019 was a fantastic vintage. Flowering was good, and we were not affected by any frosts. Spring and early summer were warm and throughout the summer Hawke’s Bay experienced warm settled weather with hot, dry conditions. Unusually for Hawke’s Bay there were no significant rain events around vintage which meant we had the luxury of picking when flavour ripeness was at its optimum.
Fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. Hand plunged two times daily. Post fermentation soak for two to three weeks followed by maturation in barrel. Matured in French oak barrels for over 18 months (25% new).
The name 'Serine' came about after speculation over the origin of our oldest Syrah vines, which are the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. At one stage, it was thought the clone of Syrah might be Serine. That was never established but the name stuck. We pick our Syrah in a number of different batches, as we have different clones, vineyards and ages of vines. For the Serine Syrah we aim to make a serious wine which will develop in the bottle, but one which does not need to be cellared for years before drinking.
