Description

  • French oak
  • Honeysuckle
  • Fresh citrus
  • Toasty vanilla

"This is delectably styled and expressed with golden stone fruit, rockmelon, nougat, brioche and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully generous palate offering ripe fruit intensity together with seductive oak nuances, leading to a lengthy creamy finish. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2021

The Rapaura Springs Reserve Chardonnay is rich and flavourful. Each bottle is bursting with honeysuckle, white peach, nectarine and fresh citrus, all complemented by toasty vanilla and subtle spiced oak characters.

Fruit for their 2021 Reserve Chardonnay is grown predominately in the Southern Valleys sub-region.

2021 was a unique vintage, one of the earliest and shortest on record. The growing season was the third in a series of drought vintages, the stress on the vines was compounded by a huge wind run. The combination of some early frost events and a poor flowering resulted in lower yields and smaller bunches than usual. This, combined with the dry conditions, has meant that disease levels are incredibly low this year, resulting in better flavours and pristine fruit. They’re thrilled with the concentration and intensity of flavour in their 2021 wines.

After the Chardonnay was harvested, the fruit was pressed and the juice fermented with 25% new oak. A secondary malolactic fermentation has softened the wine and added extra texture and complexity to the palate.

Their Reserve wines are expertly crafted from selected vineyards with impressive flavour concentration and palate weight. Each bottle of Rapaura Springs tells the story of a lifetime. Of water and wine, and of generations of family working with nature. Their label depicts the rocky aquifer at their home vineyard, and the pristine springs that connect it to their land. They make exceptional wines that reflect their remarkable landscapes, pure waterways and passionate people.

T
Has really good classic chardonnay flavour. Just needs a little rounding and softening of the edges for the 5th star.
