Description

  • French oak
  • Grapefruit
  • Marzipan
  • Mouthwatering

"Bright, pale yellow with a green hue and some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full with subtle power, slowly growing richer as it aerated, greeted with buttery pastry, almonds and flint, underlying ripe stonefruit and spice mix. Full-bodied, harmonious aromas of peach, apricot melded with lemon curd and a hint of floral, unfolding toasted almonds, butterscotch and barrel spice. Toasty, buttery autolysis added complexion and charm. A slightly chalky texture flows with creaminess; lively acid tension brightens the palate, cuts through the creamy veil, and lingers to linearity. This is a harmonious Chardonnay with great complexity and seamless acidity in its youthful. Match with butter-poached crayfish and guinea fowl over the next 10 years" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Nov 2021

"An excellent wine, a rich statement on the bouquet with a toasty sweet wood scents leading to aromas of baked orchard fruits and grapefruit then a stony earthy quality. Weighty, new and fresh with a youthful power and energy. The core of fruit delivers flavours of fresh and baked orchard stone fruits, apple, some grapefruit and citrus qualities alongside wood, lees and acidity for a powerful foundation. Great length on the finish, but also still very youthful requiring cellar time" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Apr 2020

"Pale lemon in colour with aromas of toasted almonds, notes of grapefruit and citrus flavours on the nose. The wine is dry, intensely citrusy with notes of lemon and grapefruit on its full bodied palate. Youthful acidity adds brightness and freshness to the smooth, creamy texture in this wine. It’s made from hand picked grapes from the Tin Shed vineyard at 125 Gimblett Road (hence the name). Grapes were fermented in new 500 litre French oak puncheons with malolactic fermentation encouraged to accentuate softness and a creamy texture in the wine. Delicious tension comes from the well balanced acidity, which will preserve this wine for up to 10 years in good cellaring conditions" Joelle Thomson, 2021

Fragrant aromas of white peaches, ripe grapefruit, and citrus blossom are complemented by hints of roasted nuts, flint, sweet spices, and marzipan. The wine is rich and concentrated in the mouth yet remains focused and composed with outstanding persistence and length of flavour. Pure stone fruit/citrus flavours, cedary/toasty oak, gently drying phenolics and a fine thread of acidity combine effortlessly on the palate leading to a savoury, mouthwatering finish. A superb Chardonnay of exquisite balance, poise and tension that will captivate you until the very last drop.

Hand harvested fruit from Clone 95, 548 and 15 Chardonnay vines in their “Tin Shed” vineyard on 125 Gimblett Road was gently pressed and the juice fermented in new 500-litre French oak puncheons. Malolactic fermentation was encouraged to soften the acidity and impart further richness. The wine spent 12 months on yeast lees building further texture and complexity before being racked out of barrel, filtered, and bottled in March 2021 with no fining.

Truly great Chardonnay is exhilarating. When all the elements – ripe fruit, savoury oak, refreshing acidity – are in balance, working together in harmony, the result is a sublime combination of richness and power coupled with sophistication and refinement. This is their vision when making Chardonnay and what they feel they have captured in this, their third, single vineyard release.
