Description

  • American & French oak
  • Boysenberry & plum
  • Allspice & fennel
  • Lovely tannins

"Attractively ripe and beautifully fragrant, showing dark plum, sweet cherry, thyme, subtle spice and toasted nut aromas, it's succulent and supple in the mouth with soothing mouthfeel and fine tannins. Splendidly rounded and expansive with a lengthy silky finish. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2021

Alluring notes of boysenberry, black pepper, allspice, crushed petals and fennel seed. A juicy palate with flavours of plum cake, dark cherry and rhubarb, leading to a long palate with lovely tannins, making this delicious and refreshing.

With good Winter soil moisture, the vines grew happily through a warm Spring. As Summer arrived, so did the warm, dry weather to ripen the grapes. Winemakers began picking Grenache on 8 March, followed by Shiraz on 13 March and Mataro on 19 April. Lovely, intense flavours in each variety have resulted in a wine full of vibrancy and flavour.

The Grenache is sourced from the Kalimna and Vine Vale subregions of the Barossa kown for their light, sandy soils, perfect for growing quality Grenache. The Shiraz is primarily sourced from Light Pass, planted on rich, red brown river loams delivering great perfume and mid-palate weight. The Mataro is grown in a single vineyard in Kalimna and adds tannin length to the wine.

Matured for 10 months in new French oak hogsheads and puncheons (10%), balance in 1 year and older French and American oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques.

With more than 170 yeas of unbroken indepence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder's home estate under direction of the same family today. Samuel's Collection honours Yalumba's founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independce and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine.

Food Pairing: Korean-style pork ribs or balsamic and garlic grilled mushroom skewers.
