Description

  • Peach
  • Lemongrass
  • Barrique fermented

The 2020 ‘Barrique Fermented’ Viognier is a fruit bomb. Decidedly aromatic, expressing peach, mineral, lemon grass, spice and subtle oak. As suggested by its name, it was barrel fermented. There was one new barrique in the stack. The ‘Barrique Fermented’ Viognier has fashioned an excellent reputation in wine shows, having won two Trophies and numerous medals - the 2020 ‘Barrique Fermented’ Viognier should continue the family tradition.

Grown at their Ohiti Estate Vineyard, the Viognier is cropped minimally and harvested just after our Chardonnay grapes. It is spur pruned and has only two cordons. Cropping levels across the vineyard are typically light and was harvested on the 22nd and 27th March.

2020 was an exceptional growing season, producing premium quality Viognier fruit for this wine.

The fruit for this wine was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation was in a mix of new and seasoned oak barriques, which are placed in a temperature controlled cellar for the duration of the fermentation. It was then left on its lees for 10 months before racking and bottling.

Food Pairing: Ideal pairing with chucked oysters and pan seared fillet of fish.
