The 2018 Three Finger Jack Old Vine Zinfandel is bold and concentrated, opening with rich aromas of black raspberry, toasty oak, roasted coffee, and plum. Lodi - Zinfandel capital of the world! Lodi lies between the San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with a classic Mediterranean-like climate featuring warm days and cool evenings. As the Zinfandel capital of the world, Lodi produces over 40 percent of California's premium Zinfandel. It has long been recognised globally as the home of highly acclaimed Old Vine Zinfandels, with some plantings dating back to 1888, taken care of by 4th and 5th generation winegrowers.

The 2018 vintage could quite possibly be one of the best ever for Lodi thanks to a near perfect growing season. Situated 100 miles directly east of the San Francisco Bay at the edge of the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta, a cool blanket slips into the area at night keeping the vineyard temperatures mild in the morning and slowly heats up during the day. In 2018, Lodi was spared from extreme weather variations allowing uniform clusters to develo concentrated flavours and the long season brought natural acidity and bold Zinfandel quality.

Lodi has been grape growing since the 1850s and in most places, the soil is deep loam which is similar to French Rhône region of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Locals insist the East SIde of the region grows the best Cabernet Sauvignon because the soil is full of cobble stones and low on nutrients. The soil is also low on water retention leaving the vines stressed which leads to intensity of colour. Most of the grapes for Three Finger Jack East Side Ridge come from here. The appellation has a classic Mediterranean-like cliamte featuring warm days and cool evenings.

Three Finger Jack grapes are picked at peack maturity levels with winemaking assessing vineyards to determin ripeness. Stainless steel fermentation at cooler temperatures keeps the fruit flavours vivid and fresh. The winemaker is constantly watching and determining the perfect time to press the wines when colour and flavour are most pronounced. The wine is then aged on American and French oak to achieve its full potential. Three Finger Jack Old Vine Zinfandel is certified sustainable under Lodi rules standards and the winery itself is certified inder California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.
