Description

  • French oak
  • Dark red fruit
  • Violet
  • Vibrant & silky

"It's gorgeously ripe and seductively complex on the nose showing dark cherry, charcuterie, dark spice and toasted nut characters with a hint of dried herb note. It's concentrated and refined on the palate, offering terrific fruit weight and silky texture, wonderfully framed by loads of polished tannins, finishing impressively long and structured. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2020

"Quite an earthy, savoury pinot with cherry, violet, dried herb, spice, anise and cedar flavours. A good wine with a distinctive and appealing character" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2020

Tobacco, violet, and subtle earthy characters on the nose, followed by vibrant, silky dark red and plum flavours. Good stuff. The notion that Hawke’s Bay has no business in the Pinot Noir game has long since been relegated to the ‘stuff and nonsense’ file.

Grown organically at Mangatahi on old river terraces on vines that produced plump, ripe fruit picked long before the April rains hit. Expert canopy management, including shoot thinning and leaf plucking, has ensured vine health, ideal flavours and clean, ripe fruit.

The fruit was destemmed and cold-soaked for up to seven days before a natural ferment kicked off. The wine was pumped over up to three times a day at the height of ferment and spent a total of three weeks on skins. The wine was matured in new and used French oak before blending.
