Fruit was hand picked on the 5th of May 2017 from a vineyard site on the Martinborough terrace. Conditions heavily favoured botrytis infection and the fruit was a great example of “ pourriture noble”, being well shrivelled with some uninfected berries. The grapes were crushed into bins and left for 12 hours before pressing the following day. The juice was cold settled for 48 hours then racked to a stainless steel tank for fermentation using cultured yeasts. Fermentation was long and slow over a period of six weeks.
Established in 1993, Alana Estate is a boutique winery nestled in the heart of the Martinborough township. Alana ffocusses on producing small batches of artisanal wine with a minimum of intervention in the wine making process.
