Windspiel Barrel-Aged Potato Vodka (500ml)
Windspiel Barrel-Aged Potato Vodka (500ml)
Description
In the 2016 vintage Windspiel Barrel-Aged Potato Vodka, the Pirol potato variety plays the main role. The floury potato variety has a particularly high starch content and is therefore perfect for potato vodka. So that the vodka has a delicately mild flavour but still retains nuances of potato, master distiller Holger Borchers first produces the raw distillate. The team sought assistance for the three runs of the second distillation and for the final distillation. The master distiller known for his vodka expertise, Dr. Franz Eckert, developed a special technique for the final distillation for example. This final distillation gives the vodka an unmistakeably delicate and mild refinement so that it carries the potato flavours perfectly.
An epicurean delight from the farm – there could hardly be a better way to describe Windspiel. Sandra Wimmeler, Denis Lönnendonker, Rebecca Mertes and Tobias Schwoll grow the potatoes that make their spirits so unique on their own farm in the Volcanic Eifel. The entire enterprise projects stylish elegance, tradition and a down-to-earth philosophy. Their products are hand-crafted and sold in small batches. Windspiel is dedicated to Frederick the Great who discovered the potato in
Germany and to his second great passion: the greyhound or in German “Windspiel”.
Daun, 15 April 2016 – Germany’s first potato vodka to be matured in ash barrels is being launched. The Windspiel Barrel-Aged Potato Vodka is a special vintage vodka made from potatoes with a particularly high starch content, the Pirol variety, at the Weilerhof farm. After five distillations using a technique specially developed for the purpose, it is stored in ash barrels for several months. The result is a mild vodka that reflects the character of the potato.
