On the nose ripe peach and pear combine with lifted vanilla pod. The palate has mixed rich stone and citrus fruit with a silky creamy texture. There are layers of ripe fruit and well integrated vanilla French oak flavours. The finish is soft and silky.
A sunny and warm growing season ripened the grapes and these were hand-picked on the 7th April at 22.6 Brix. Once destemmed, crushed and lightly settled they are racked off the lees for fermentation. A long wild yeast fermentation along with malolactic fermentation in French Oak have contributed to create a sophisticated, elegant and finely structured Chardonnay. This wine is certified Organic, along with being vegetarian and vegan friendly.
The 2016 Chardonnay is estate grown on the Huia Home Block Vineyard. This vineyard was planted in 1995 on a range of soil types from sandy to very stony alluvial silts. The Dijon 95 vines come from the Meursault region in Burgundy France. These vines are low in vigour and we spur prune to even out the growth and ripening behaviour.
Food Pairing: Huia Chardonnay is delicious with chargrilled salmon, lobster or crayfish, roasted or baked chicken, pasta in cream sauces, mature Brie and other soft cheeses.
