"It's wonderfully ripe and immediately appealing on the nose showing cassis, dark plum, vanilla, cedar and subtle tobacco notes, followed by a concentrated palate that's flavoursome and persistent. The wine combined fabulous fruit richness with elegant complexity. At its best: now to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020
"These Little Giant wines are built to impress and are packed full of flavour. Our favourite of the lot is this delicious Coonawarra Cabernet with the classic appeal of this famous region. It is deeply coloured and displays beautifully pure leafy, choc-mint and blackcurrant fruits with a touch of cedar too, and admirable concentration. The fruit is generous and fleshy on the palate backed by balanced tannins and acidity plus subtle oak that drive a long finish. Quite a serious wine from Coonawarra at a great price" Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, Sep 2020
"The Little Giant range are from the reliable Fourth Wave Wine and put together by winemakers are Corey Ryan and Jim Zerella. Celebrating South Australian regions, the bottles are a stocky, stout package representative of its label showing southern hairy-nose wombat, South Australia’s fauna emblem. Deep cassis, older eucalypt foliage, black cherry, raw/new oak, tang of spearmint, touch of rosewater, ground mace and black olive on the withdraw. Slick, modern and fresh. Bright black fruits propelled with juicy energy and exuberance. Tannins aren’t formidable, yet still present to offer body and density as a fine base layer. Such a fun drink, you have to remind yourself it’s Coonawarra cabernet. Mod Cab Sauv made for drinking" Regan Drew, 2020
Appears bright crimson red with deep purple hues. Showing a lifted perfumed nose of blackcurrant and mulberry fruit and followed by a chocolate oak and subtle spice character. The palate shows dark berry fruit flavours upfront with hints of nutmeg as well as subtle herb and red florals in the finish. Supple varietal tannins give classical framework and weight to the wine which finishes with integrated fruit and oak driving a long finish.
All in all vintage 2019 was excellent in the Coonawarra region. Prior to picking red grapes showed an even ripening throughout April ensuring good balance and concentration as well as bright fruit intensity. Cabernet from this vinatge was deep and rich with varietal definition and good tannins.
Sourced from two vineyards that were planted with one on black and the other on red soils of the famed Coonawarra. All the fruit was picked during the early morning to retain colour and flavour retention and then crushed and fermented for a period of up to 10 days. Following primary fermentation the wine was pressed off into a small parcel of new but mostly into older oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation where it was held for a period of 10 months prior to blending and bottling.
The southern hairy-nose wombat is smaller than other wombats but is stocky, robust and the proud state emblem of South Australia. Like the might of the little wombat, Little Giant is crafted from premium regional South Australian fruit from established vineyards that deliver character and interest well above their size and weight. Hand-crafted and made with minimal additions and preservatives, these are wines made of the vineyard. The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, minimally handled in the winery and fruit vibrancy is not hidden by non-essential artifact. Seeking first and foremost fruit expression, drinkability and to be a great accompaniment to food. Don’t let the size fool you, these are wines you’ll want to drink.
Food Pairing: Perfect with lamb shanks.
