Description

- Toasted nut & warm spice
- Red cherry
- Dark chocolate
"Intensely ripe, rich, concentrated example of the great grape of Tuscany, only here transported to the winegrowing region of Rubicone in Romagna. Densely coloured, with heady, macerated cherry fruit on the nose, supported by a whiff of vanillin oak. Lush and creamy to taste, that sweet oak is again evident, this is a seductive, generous, fleshy red to serve with rich foods, or the cheese course. If you like big Aussie Shiraz, or opulent Rhone reds, this is for you!" Paul Tudor, Master of Wine
"This wine has all the elements for commercial success - a cute bottle, traditional label, a competitive price and plenty of soft, rich berry and savoury flavours plus a seductively smooth texture. It even tastes like sangiovese. Good value" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, August 2020
"This extremely affordable, super drinkable Italian wine took my fancy. It over delivers on price and flavour. It is a bargain; I love it... an awesome grape variety and easily one of my top 5 faves. Or is that one of my top 3. I never can decide. Made in Romagna by winemaker Scipione Giuliani, who uses the appassimento (dried grape winemaking) method to produce a modestly priced wine with great concentration and dry flavours" Joelle Thomson
"Sweetly fruited and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows spiced cherry, raspberry, toasted nut and warm spice aromas. The palate displays succulent fruit flavours and smooth mouthfeel, well framed by mellow tannins. Friendly and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Rubicone is an important subregion in Emilia-Romagna where Sangiovese is the principal grape variety. Sangiovese is better known as the varietal behind Tuscany's well-structured, complex Chianti wines but in Romagna, talented winemakers such as Scipione Giuliani are also producing Sangiovese wines with great depth and balance, like this fine example. A dark colour-saturated, full-bodied modern style of Sangiovese with intense violet, berry and dark-chocolate, savoury flavours flavours supported by good acidity and rich tannins.
Food Pairing: The wine is smooth enough to drink on its own but the complex flavours and rich structure of this wine mean it is a great accompaniment to a wide variety of cold-cuts, cheese and meat dishes.

Great value for money Sangiovese. Will probably order another case.
