Description
- French oak
- Blueberry & plum
- Subtle cocoa
- Youthful tannins
"It's sweetly fruited and spicy at the same time, showing Black Doris plum, ripe cherry, thyme, game and almond characters on the nose. The palate delivers elegant weight and beautifully rounded mouthfeel, combined with savoury nuances, finishing long and delightfully silky" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2020
"Fresh, youthful, bright, fruity and varietal bouquet with aromas and flavours of raspberries and darker cherries, some plum then pepper, newish wood suggestions with a raw toasty layer then red peppercorn. Dry with medium+ weight, mild tannins, plenty of acidity and lighter red fruit flavours that reflect the nose. Well made with a moderate youthful finish. Best drinking from today and through 2023" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
A supple spicy Syrah, this wine has aromas of violet and pepper, and rich flavours of blueberry and plum with a dusting of cocoa. This is followed by fine youthful tannins and a fresh finish.
The fruit for this Mystery wine was sourced from a vineyard in the Bridge Pa district of Hawke’s Bay, the warm dry climate and famous free draining soils make this a superb location for ripening quality Syrah. The mature vines are consistently managed to produce a balanced crop of ripe fruit. 2019 was an outstanding vintage in Hawkes Bay, the warm dry weather through late summer and autumn gave us fruit with small berries and great concentration.
The fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness and macerated overnight before fermentation began. A combination of plunging and pumping-over and techniques followed by post ferment maceration ensured the extraction of flavour and tannin. The wine was aged in tank and French Oak barrels for 12 months before the final blend was assembled for bottling.
Food Pairing: Excellent with duck, venison casserole, roast beef and mushroom.

Michel - 08/05/2021
This wine is very drinkable but is more like a Pinot Noir. Has it been incorrectly labeled?
Bob - 22/02/2022
Great tastes and good value
Ian - 18/02/2022
Pretty good for the price
Jesse - 13/02/2022
Very nice having tried 2 bottles but I believe has not reached full potential so will cellar for another 12 months to lengthen the taste and smooth the ride.
Russell - 19/01/2022
It's pretty good, but I do prefer a more full bodied shiraz.
James - 28/10/2021
Very drinkable, but not what you'd expect from a Syrah. Pretty light in colour, body and punch.
Charlie - 15/10/2021
Excellent tasting and value for money. Would get again

Paul - 02/05/2021
Another good mystery wine with all the hallmark taste and nose of a good Sryah
jon - 19/04/2021
A very nice subtle quaffing Syrah. More like a Pinot than some of the more tannic Aussie Shiraz
Alison - 12/03/2021
Its a good light wine but I was expecting Syrah to be more full bodies, this is more like a Pinot Noir which is not my fav.
Cali - 09/11/2020
Have ordered this before and very pleased with the quality
Sue - 31/10/2020
ENjoyable wine
Robert - 27/10/2020

John - 05/10/2020
A reorder. Opened one bottle which was full of raspberries then closed up. A good wine that needs a little time.
Lance - 03/09/2020
Great wine, not a heavy Syrah but great to drink, will reorder
warren - 25/08/2020
Took a punt on this from the reviews and the price. Won't do that again, its very light and and not particularly syrah like.
Dave - 13/02/2022
ok
Barbara - 06/02/2022
Very light wine lacks depth in taste
Jonathan - 01/11/2021
Quite a nice wine
H - 25/10/2021
Nice, but want to try some different wines.
John & Maggie - 20/10/2021
It’s a good $12.99 wine. It would struggle to maintain a $30 price tag. A pleasant, light Syrah.
Robbie - 07/10/2021
It is a tad lighter than other Syrah's I have enjoyed from Hawke's Bay over the last 2 years, but it is also good value for money.
Barbara - 02/09/2021
Just ok.
Don - 30/08/2021
Nice wine but did not display the classic Syrah taste.
David - 18/07/2021
As above good value for money
