Description

  • Dry style
  • Strawberry & raspberry
  • Melon & stone fruit
  • Subtle creaminess

"For starters the colour of this Rosé is BEYOND glorious.  How to describe it?  It almost glows in the dark, it’s so luminously pink, it’s practically Pantone 673.  Scented with creaming soda, candy floss and raspberry buns and delectably dry on the palate.  Raspberry, cherry, white pepper and tones of watermelon make this an absolutely unputdownable sip for every single season.  Normally priced around $19, this online special is incredible value" Yvonne Lorkin, Jun 2020

"Delightfully fruited and beautifully lifted, the bouquet shows raspberry, nectarine, lemon zest and floral aromas, leading to a vibrant palate that's juicy and crisp. It's flavoursome with bright fruit intensity, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020

This is a vibrant cool climate Rosé, pale pink in the glass with effusive aromas of strawberry and melon on the nose. The palate is lively with raspberry and stone fruit flavours, subtle creaminess and a long fresh finish.

The fruit for this Rosé comes from the Matahiwi home vineyard, a raised ridge of stony soil  in the Opaki district outside Masterton in Wairarapa. The free draining soils and cool dry climate are ideal for ripening Pinot Noir. Blocks of predominantly clone 10/5 have been chosen for the Rose program, and the vines managed to enhance aromatic potential and retain fresh acidity in the fruit. The 2020 growing season started off cool and dry leading on to a very dry summer, this produced a small crop of very concentrated fruit.

Winemakers harvested the fruit in the fresh flavour spectrum ideal for Rosé, with the majority being pressed off immediately, while a smaller portion spent more time on skins for added colour. The majority of the juice was fermented at cool temperatures with yeast strains selected to enhance aromatic and varietal character. A smaller portion was fermented with higher solids at warmer temperatures to promote mouthfeel and complexity. The component wines were blended soon after vintage and prepared for bottling to capture their youthful vibrancy.

Food Pairing: Excellent on its own or with a wide range of foods, crayfish, prawns and salmon being some of our favourite matches.

Tastes as luscious as it looks while not being at all sweet. Yummy berries and cream comes to mind. Just delicious.
