Description
- Toasted hazelnut
- Ripe berry
- Violets
- Robust tannins
"Complex and savoury, the wine shows ripe berry, cured meat, toasted hazelnut and thyme notes on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that’s finely textured and lingering. It’s delightfully flavoursome with robust tannins, finishing firm and persistent. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2020
This wine is classically Nebbiolo in color and perfume, showing up a beautiful ruby red in the glass and presenting an intense bouquet of violets and red fruits, raspberry in particular. Pleasant tannins recall the earth of the Langhe on the finish.
Only 3000 bottles of this wine were produced.
Located in Barbaresco in the heart of the Langhe Hills in Piemonte Italy. La Vedetta was born from their passion for wine and the love of their territory. The vineyards have long been cultivated by Marco Viglino’s family. In the past decades the grapes had been sold to other producers in the area, until Marco decided two years ago to quit his job in management and make winemaking his full time business. Marco takes part in every step of the process, from the cultivation of the vineyards to the production in the cellar, right up to the bottling. The vineyards have good facing exposures of south and southeastern, at altitudes of 200 meters above sea level. The vineyards are cultivated with sustainable agriculture, not using any chemical products. They will have their organic certification starting in 2019. This wine is the first fruits of their labors, and wow, well done!
For Marco Viglino it took three cities, two jobs, and one decade for him to realize that his place in the world is where he grew up, in the hills of Barbaresco. A passionate and driven young man who decided a few years ago to quit his corporate nine to five job to focus on continuing his family winemaking tradition. Using his family’s expertise, traditional techniques, and a passion and respect for the terroir is key to Marco’s approach. Oenologist Piero Ballario (of Elio Grasso fame) consults at this tiny “garagiste” cantina. La Vedetta is fast developing a reputation as a producer to watch in the Barbaresco growing region.
