Description

  • Dry style
  • Tropical fruit
  • Floral notes
  • Crisp minerality

Expressive tropical melon fruits, guava and passionfruit with floral blackcurrant leaf herbal aromas. The palate has a soft and juicy entrance full of melon and mango with underlying yellow bell peppers. The wine is weighty and textural, with a crisp mineral line to finish.

The Bull Paddock Vineyard is located in the Dillons Point sub-region of Marlborough’s Lower Wairau Valley and was once only good for raising bulls. The young alluvial soils now produce grapes with a powerful bouquet of rich tropical aromas, expressive flavours and an intriguing mineral element.

The 2019 Marlborough growing season had a slow start with below average temperatures and higher rainfall resulting in cooler ground temperatures. Strong, even growth followed in the lead up to flowering and adverse weather events saw a mixed fruit set impacting yields. Extended hot and dry weather resulted in advanced ripening and an earlier than average start to harvest.

With careful canopy management winemakers were able to manipulate the fruit to achieve what they wanted. Selected picks in the cool of the morning were undertaken. When the fruit reached the winery it was quickly crushed, gently pressed and was then batch fermented with selected specialised yeast strains. After fermentation the individual parcels rested before blending to produce the most vibrant single vineyard wine from the Bull Paddock vineyard.
