Description

  • Toasty French oak
  • Red cherry
  • Dried spicy fruit
  • Silky structure

"Sweetly fruited and seductively complex, the wine shows spiced cherry, dark plum, cured meat and olive characters on the nose. It's equally attractive on the palate, offering lovely weight and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by silken texture and polished tannins, finishing long and delightfully savoury. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2020

"Bright, light ruby-red with some depth, lighter on edge. The bouquet is fragranced with depth, exhibiting fresh red berries, red cherries, an amalgam of spices lifted with floral, along with savoury earth and gamey notes. Medium-bodied, the palate is fresh with well-defined layers of aromas, red berries and cherries with a deep fragranced floral scent; along with aromatic oak spices underlying earth and gamey notes. The mouthfeel is soft and delicate; lacy acidity interweaved with a fine line of grainy tannin extraction, leaves a silky sustained finish. This is a pretty, delicate Pinot Noir with flavours of red fruit and floral complexity, along with spices, earthy and gamey elements flow with silky tannin and lacy acidity. Match with crispy duck and gamefowl over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from Wairau Valley, 115 Dijon clone, 10% whole bunches, fermented to 13.5% alc. Aged in Frech oak barriques for 10 months, 30% new" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Jun 2020

"Light and quite savoury Pinot Noir with red cherry, toast, dried herb, grape stems and smoky oak flavours. Delicate sweet fruit is balanced by fine and slightly stemmy tannins to give a dry finish" Bob Campbel, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2019

"The 2018 vintage (4.5*) was matured for 10 months in old French oak barriques.  Fragrant and supple, it is ruby hued,  sweet-fruited and savoury, with youthful cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, showing good concentration and complexity. Best drinking 2021+" Michael Cooper

"Tart edged with cranberry, cherry and metallic/mineral edging" Joe Wadsack, Panel Chair and Tim Atkin, Master of Wine, Co-Chair, International Wine Challenge 2020

"Really nice bouquet of Pinot Noir with an immediate sense of pinosity from fruit then spice then soil. Aromas of red berries and roses, plum and light brown baking spice and stony, dry stone mineral layer. Harmonious and inviting. On the palate - youthful, fresh, varietal and tense with chalk-dust textures of tannin, medium+ acidity and fruit flavours that reflect the nose. Youthful still, nice weight and tension, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2023" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier

Garnet red colour in the glass. Ripe red fruits, with a hint of toast and cedar. A full bodied, ripe and round palate, showing juicy red currants, red cherry and dried spicy fruits. A silky structure with toasted oak on the finish. Drinking beautifully from release and will continue to mature over the next ten years.

This Hatters Hill Pinot Noir was harvested from the Delta vineyard, located on the south side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley. The vineyard comprises of 27 hectares of Pinot Noir from selected Dijon clones planted in 2002. The vineyard's rich clay soil and elevation combined with Marlborough's warm days and cool nights, make this site ideal for producing top quality Pinot Noir.

Delta's winemaker selected the finest clone 115 Pinot Noir grapes from the Delta vineyard. The grapes were carefully picked and transported to the winery where they were kept in a cold soak for four days to extract maximum colour, flavour and tannin form the grapes.

Fermented with a carefully selected yeast strain, the grapes were hand plunged up to eight times daily during the height of fermentation. 10% whole bunches were added to enhance the complexity of the wine. After fermentation, the wine was transferred into French oak barriques, 30% brand new, and left to mature for ten months. Only the finest barrels were selected and lightly fined before bottling.

Food Pairing: Excellently paired with roasted duck and rich lamb dishes.
