Description

  • Dark plum & cherry
  • Walnut
  • Warm spice
  • Silky, polished tannins

"It is beautifully ripe, modern and immediately appealing on the nose showing dark plum, cherry, floral and walnut characters with nuances of warm spice and olive. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by silky texture and polished tannins. Delightfully drinkable" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2018

"Rubicone is an important subregion in Emilia-Romagna where sangiovese is the principal grape variety. It's a modern style of sangiovese with reasonably intense violet, berry and bramble flavours supported by good acidity and fine tannins. An accessible red offering very good value at this price. Packaged in a cute bottle" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2018

Rubicone is an important subregion in Emilia-Romagna where Sangiovese is the principal grape variety. Sangiovese is better known as the varietal behind Tuscany's well-structured, complex Chianti wines but in Romagna, talented winemakers such as Scipione Giuliani are also producing Sangiovese wines with great depth and balance, like this fine example. A dark colour-saturated, full-bodied modern style of Sangiovese with intense violet, berry and dark-chocolate, savoury flavours flavours supported by good acidity and rich tannins.

Food Pairing: The wine is smooth enough to drink on its own but the complex flavours and rich structure of this wine mean it is a great accompaniment to a wide variety of cold-cuts, cheese and meat dishes.

Just opened another bottle for dinner tonight. Also, a great change from our NZ and Aussie reds. This is a wine Italy is noted for and it did not disappoint. Give it a go.
